Today is the birth anniversary of Arab theater pioneer Alawiya Jamil
On this day, December 15, 1910, marks the birth anniversary of " Elia Sabat Khalil Majdalani " It is the original name of the artist Alawiya Jamil, who was born in Tamai Al-Zahayra and whose origins go back to Lebanon. She joined the “Ramses” band. With Youssef Wahbi, the pioneer of Arab theater in 1925, who chose her artistic name when she was fifteen years old.
After that, she continued to present works On stage, especially after she joined a number of theatrical groups at that time, including “George Abyad, Salama Hegazy, and Aziz Eid,” and she participated in a number of plays, including “The Homeland, Rasputin, The Count of Monte Cristo, divorce, the honorable representative, tainted blood.”
She married when she was young, and had children with her first husband before separating from him, until she entered into a love story with The artist Mahmoud El-Melegy, and the love story was crowned with marriage, and they lived together for more than 40 years until “Al-Melegy” passed away. In 1983, they did not have any children. She participated in her first cinematic work, which was the film Zeinab in 1930 and the film Happy Day in 1940, with the musician of the generations Mohamed Abdel-Wahab, screenplay and dialogue by Abdel-Wareth Asar, and directed by Mohamed Karim, and the artist Faten Hamama appeared in it as a child not more than seven years old.
With Youssef Wehbe, Alawiya Jamil presented a number of films, including “Berlanti, Son of… Al-Haddad”, in addition to her films “Laila, Daughter of the Rich”, “Do Good”, “There Is No Understanding”, “The Unknown Lover”, “The Student”. In most of her works, the artist Alawiya appeared as a domineering woman who did not accept anyone discussing her decisions, except for a few times in which she appeared as a broken and helpless woman, and that was with her husband Mahmoud Al-Meligy, Maryam Fakhr El-Din, and Youssef Fakhr El-Din, through the movie " “Today’s Youth”, directed by Mahmoud Zulfiqar, with a screenplay and dialogue by Abdulaziz Salam.
And in the drama, The only work presented by Alawiya Jamil, the series “The Black Cat”, directed by Adel Sadiq, and the story of Muhammad Abdel Qader Al-Mazni, starring Mahmoud Al-Meligy, Madiha Salem, Omar Al-Hariri. Alawiya Jamil retired from art in the mid-sixties of the last century, and stopped participating in artistic works until her passing on August 16, 1994 at her home, without any artistic figure attending her condolence ceremony.
