The award opens the way for authors, illustrators and publishers specializing in children’s and young adult literature in the Arabic language from various parts of the world to compete with their works to continue their role in supporting Arab creativity directed to new generations and enhancing its global presence.
The award includes five main categories: “Early Childhood” for books aimed at children from birth to five years, “Picture Book” for the age group from 5 to 9 years, “Book with Chapters” for children from 9 to 12 years, and “Young Adult Book” for the age group from 13 to 18 years, in addition to the “Non-Fiction Books” category, which represents the changing category for the current cycle. These categories reflect the diversity of the targeted age stages and their different reading and cognitive needs.
The total value of the award is 1.2 million UAE dirhams, distributed among authors, illustrators and publishers in its five categories. The winners will be announced and honored during the opening of the Sharjah International Book Fair 2026 in recognition of their contribution to supporting the Arab children’s book industry and encouraging the production of high-quality creative works that combine cognitive value and artistic appeal, thus contributing to enriching content directed to children and young people.
To accept entries, the works must be original, written in Arabic, and published in paper form within the past five years, and must not have received other awards, with full compliance with intellectual property and publishing rights. The award does not accept educational, school, or scientific books, series, or electronic or audio publications, as part of the award’s keenness to attract qualitative works that are compatible with its approved professional and cultural standards.
The award allows publishers to submit up to five titles in the Arabic language in the “Early Childhood” and “Picture Book” categories, while an unlimited number of works can be submitted in the other categories provided that the approved criteria are met.
