Bodies in the capital of the Vanuatu archipelago after a violent earthquake

An eyewitness in Port Via told Agence France-Presse that he saw bodies in the capital of Vanuatu after the violent earthquake that struck the archipelago today, causing bridges to collapse, causing landslides and causing severe damage to buildings.

Michael Thompson, a resident of Port Via, said in a satellite phone call after he posted pictures on social media sites documenting some of the damage resulting from the earthquake that the ground floor of a building housing the American and French embassies was crushed under the upper floors.
