12 participants revive musical heritage in the sesame instrument making course

The Royal Institute of Traditional Arts, “Warth,” in cooperation with the Heritage Authority, organized a training course entitled “The Basics of Making the Sesame Machine,” at the Babtain House in Yanbu al-Bahr, during the period from December 29 to January 2.
This course comes with the participation of 12 male and female trainees, as part of the efforts aimed at promoting traditional crafts and reviving the national cultural heritage.
The course addresses the introduction to the semsimiyya instrument, which is part of the musical heritage in coastal areas, as it consists of five strings and is based on the pentatonic scale and is characterized by its unique character.
Wooden and metal sesame
The course includes a review of the history of simsimiyah, its parts and stages of development, in addition to training participants on making it in the traditional way.
It aims to develop participants’ skills in designing wooden and metal semsimiyya, introduce them to the musical maqams used to play them, and enhance national identity by highlighting traditional musical heritage.
The course is held in the evening from four to eight and lasts for five days. Trainees are required to attend no less than 75% of the scheduled course hours, in addition to completing the training project in line with the approved standards of mastery.
