Young Leaders Foundation launched the semi-final competition for the second edition of the “Climate Leaders” program. With the participation of more than 200 projects, under the auspices of the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Social Solidarity, and the sponsorship of the Egyptian Telecommunications Company and the National Council for Women, in the presence of a large number of representatives of ministries, the government and private sectors, in addition to the media field.
The Youth Leaders Foundation explained that this competition comes within the framework of our continuous endeavor to enhance environmental awareness and activate the role of youth in confronting environmental challenges, as this is the decisive stage within the activities of the “Leaders” program. Climate”, pointing out that during the competition, the contestants will present their projects related to various fields of sustainability and the green economy, which reflect their leadership and creativity abilities in finding innovative solutions to environmental challenges, and a number of specialists will participate in the judging committees for the various projects, giving them effective advice to support the projects.
For his part, Representative Ahmed Fathi, founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Youth Leaders Foundation, Undersecretary of the Solidarity Committee in the House of Representatives and Rapporteur of the Youth Committee in the National Dialogue, said that the program "Climate Leaders" It aims to train and qualify a generation of young people to be effective leaders in the fields of sustainability, climate change, environment and green economy, to contribute to achieving the goals of sustainable development and Egypt’s Vision 2030, noting that during the second edition of the “Climate Leaders” program More than 15,000 people applied, and 200 teams qualified for the semi-final presentation stage, through more than 90,000 hours of training in various fields. The program receives four categories for competition: startups, prototypes of ideas, student groups, and awareness campaigns.
Fathi expressed his pride in the eagerness of Egyptian youth to participate in climate action, which was demonstrated by the submission of more than 500 projects for the edition. The second part of the “Climate Leaders” program, emphasizing the Young Leaders Foundation’s keenness to support youth participation to build a new generation capable of correctly understanding environmental concepts and confronting environmental challenges.
The sessions were attended by Dr. Safaa Hosni, Director of Programs at the Young Leaders Foundation, Rana Abu Jazia, Executive Director of the Foundation, Engineer Lydia Eliwa, Director General of Climate Change Technology and Research – Central Administration for Climate Change, and Tamer Mostafa, General Manager of Sales. Companies at the Egyptian Telecom Company, Walaa Selim, head of the legal team for economic empowerment projects at the National Council for Women, and Akhled Al-Abhar, director of one of the companies participating in the first edition of the Climate Leaders Program.
