Aboul Gheit: The challenges of peace require a just solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict

 The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, confirmed that the Arab region is going through one of the most dangerous moments in its modern history, where crises are complex and intertwined, which increases the possibility of their explosion, stressing that crises remain unresolved or conflicts freeze without settlement. It is a path fraught with dangers, and provides fragile and unreliable stability.

Aboul Gheit said – in his speech during the session on Palestine and Lebanon, within the summit Eight developing cities in the Administrative Capital – The Palestinian-Israeli conflict is the longest in the history of the region, explaining that this conflict can only be understood as an issue of national independence for a Palestinian people under occupation, and pointing out that most countries of the world recognized the Palestinian state and agreed on the two-state solution as the only way to achieve a settlement. Aboul Gheit reiterated that Israel is the only party that refuses to acknowledge this fact, as it seeks To sustain the occupation through aggression against civilians, imagining that force brings peace and security, which is a wrong perception, as proven by the events of last year, indicating that the situation will remain potentially explosive, and that security will remain fragile as long as the Palestinian people do not exercise their right to self-determination.

 

Aboul Gheit warned that the continuation of the Israeli occupation threatens the region and the entire world, as regional conflicts have increased and expanded, and we have seen how they have spread. The repercussions of the aggression against Gaza to the Arab Levant. 

 

He added that the price of continuing the occupation is horrific, pointing out that the aggression against Gaza resulted in victims not only of the Palestinians, but also of International and humanitarian law.

 

Aboul Gheit stressed the importance of supporting Lebanon at this critical stage to recover from the effects of the aggression, calling for the precise implementation of the ceasefire. And comprehensively to ensure the stability of the situation in Lebanon and restore the exhausted country to its health.

 

He stressed that the Lebanese people deserve a new opportunity to move from the cycle of despair and conflict to a better future, calling for the election of a president who represents All Lebanese and expresses their aspirations.
