Thieves steal three paintings from an Italian museum by Renoir, Cezanne and Matisse


Thieves stole three paintings by the great artists Renoir, Cezanne and Matisse from A museumin Italy a week ago, police announced on Sunday.

Four masked men entered the Magnani Rocca Foundation, near Parma in northern Italy, and stole works of art on the night of Sunday-Monday, a spokesman said Italian police told AFP, confirming a report broadcast by Rai TV.

Fish painting

Thieves stole a painting "The fish" By Auguste Renoir, and a painting "Still life with cherries" By Paul Cézanne, and a painting "Running on the balcony" by Henri Matisse.

The thieves broke into a door to enter a room on the first floor of the building before fleeing through the museum’s garden.

The spokesman added that police are reviewing surveillance camera recordings at the museum and nearby shops.

The Magnani Rocca Foundation houses the collection of art historian Luigi Magnani, which also includes works by artists such as Dürer, Rubens and Van Dyck, Goya, and Monet.
