Jeddah Book Fair.. The camel pavilion combines visual creativity with the fragrance of heritage

The camel pavilion at the Jeddah Book Fair 2024 attracted attention with a unique scene that combines visual creativity with the fragrance of heritage, as it is a window that opens to a cultural heritage that crosses time and place, and the details of the present are intertwined with the stories of the past, to reflect the status of camels as an authentic symbol in the life of the Saudi person.
The pavilion tells stories meticulously written on elegant murals that tell the names of various camels, such as “camel,” “camel,” “camel,” and “camel.”
It presents multiple dimensions of camels, starting with their place in religious heritage, such as their mention in the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Prophet, all the way to their role in Arabic literature.

The status of camels in Arabic poetry

Among the exhibits, a verse by the poet Jarir stands as a testament to the place of camels in Arabic poetry. He says: “Aren’t you better than those who ride on horses and the coolest of the worlds with stomachs of palms?”
In addition, the pavilion displays Arabic proverbs such as “More patient than a camel” and “The neck after the camel,” to reflect the extent of Arabs’ connection with camels in their daily lives.
In another corner, the pavilion takes visitors on a journey with the art of “shoeing,” which was a way to guide and unify camels during travel.

Evoking the memory of King Abdulaziz

The pavilion recalls the memory of King Abdulaziz Al Saud – may God have mercy on him – through one of the famous verses of Al-Hadda that he recited in the year 1325 AH: “O planting of the border of wealth, and life is cheapened without it… Tell the residents of the outskirts about the chaos, and do not flatter it.”
To highlight the Arabs’ deep knowledge of the conditions of camels, the pavilion allocated a space to display their different sounds, such as “Al-Irzam” and “Hanin”, which added an interactive character that attracted the attention of visitors of all ages.

A bridge connecting the past and the present

In this exhibition, camels become a bridge between the past and the present, as they remain a living witness to the authenticity of the Arabian Peninsula, and a renewed source of inspiration in the heart of Saudi society.
As visitors move between the corners of the pavilion, they have the opportunity to live a unique experience, taking them back to the days of the desert and its rich past, when camels were an integral part of daily life, and a source of pride and authenticity.
