The General Assembly requests a fatwa from “International Justice” on Israel’s obligations to United Nations activities in the Palestinian Territory

The United Nations General Assembly requested the International Court of Justice to issue an “advisory opinion” on the obligations of Israel, as the occupying power and a member of the United Nations, with regard to the presence and activities of the United Nations, including its agencies, bodies, other international organizations and States, in the occupied Palestinian territory and related matters. With it.
This came during a resolution adopted by the General Assembly yesterday, Thursday, with 137 members supporting it, 12 opposing it, and 22 abstaining from voting.
In its new resolution, the General Assembly expressed grave concern about the humanitarian situation in the occupied Palestinian territory and demanded that Israel comply with all its obligations under international law.
She expressed her appreciation for the work of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), especially in the Gaza Strip.
Through the resolution, the General Assembly called on Israel to fulfill its obligations not to hinder the Palestinian people from exercising their right to self-determination, and to comply with them, including by canceling any measures that hinder the provision of basic services and humanitarian and development assistance to the Palestinian people.
The General Assembly’s move in this regard comes against the backdrop of the Israeli Knesset’s approval of two laws, one of which prohibits UNRWA activities inside Israel that will affect the areas under its control, and the other prevents the Israeli authorities from conducting contacts with the agency.
