A “catastrophic combination” of bad weather and millions of UK travelers has caused disruption at the start of the Christmas holiday period, with some flights and ferries canceled due to strong winds.

Warnings continue in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and in England the warnings include the North East, North West, South West and West Midlands, in addition to Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Hampshire.
Heathrow Airport announced the cancellation of “a small number of flights” due to “strong winds and restrictive weather”, and British Airways said disruptions were likely to continue throughout the weekend.
