Harvest 2024.. Emirati women enhance their presence with remarkable achievements

Abu Dhabi, December 22nd / WAM / Emirati women formed an integral part of the most prominent achievements achieved by the UAE during the year 2024, which witnessed an increase in their presence and role in various fields.
The year 2024 was marked by many evidence of the success of the policy of empowering and building the capabilities of Emirati women, the most prominent of which is the country’s advancement to seventh place globally and its retention of first place regionally in the Gender Equality Index 2024, issued by the United Nations Development Programme.
Women increased their presence in the government formation of the UAE after the appointment of Her Excellency Sana bint Mohammed Suhail as Minister of the Family, after the recent establishment of the Ministry of Family.
The UAE issued the National Policy to Promote Women’s Health, which aims to prepare a multi-sectoral national framework that ensures women’s access to the highest levels of preventive, curative and rehabilitative health care services throughout the stages of their lives in the country.
To consolidate the role of women in the process of sustainable economic development, the Ministry of Economy issued a ministerial decision stipulating the necessity of allocating at least one seat for women on the boards of directors of private joint-stock companies in the UAE, after the end of the term of the current boards.
The decision, which will be implemented in January 2025, falls within a comprehensive national strategy to empower women economically and promote diversity in the business environment.
In the same context, the Ministry of Economy and the General Women’s Union concluded a memorandum of cooperation regarding strengthening communication and unifying joint efforts between the two parties, to advance the file of economic empowerment and enhance the role of women in the process of sustainable economic development, which is one of the aspects of the distinctiveness of the inspiring Emirati model in empowering women.
The agreement stipulated the formation of a joint committee to study aspects of improvement and develop proactive plans, to raise the percentage of women entrepreneurs in commercial activities, and to unify the efforts of both parties in areas that represent a common area of ​​​​their interests, especially in the media aspect, to highlight the efforts of the UAE in supporting women economically at the local and regional levels. .
The General Women’s Union launched the second batch of the Women’s Economic Empowerment Program (We Build for Sustainability), as part of its continuous endeavor to build the capabilities of Emirati women in various fields, including the economic field, out of its belief in their vital role in the process of economic and societal development, which is one of the basic foundations for providing the necessities of life. Kind to her.
The program targets girls and women who want entrepreneurship and start small and medium projects and owners of existing projects who want to develop their projects.
The annual meetings of the UAE government in 2024 witnessed the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Emirates Competitiveness Council and the Emirates Council for Gender Balance, which aims to enhance cooperation and coordination between the two parties to support the participation of Emirati women in the private sector through joint initiatives and programmes.
According to the latest official data during the year 2024, women in the UAE represented about 70% of university graduates in the country, 46% of the labor market in general and 68% in the government sector. They also held approximately a third of ministerial positions and 50% of the seats in the Federal National Council.
