Al Dhafra Falconry Festival competitions begin
Al Dhafra, December 22nd / WAM / The falconry competition began this morning, as part of the activities of the 18th Al Dhafra Festival, and will continue until December 25th in Madinat Zayed Square in the Al Dhafra region in Abu Dhabi, organized by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority and the Abu Dhabi Falconers Club, in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.
Obaid Khalfan Al Mazrouei, Acting Executive Director of the Festivals and Events Sector at the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, crowned the winners of the “Jir Taba Race” and “Hayr Shaheen – Jernas”, in the presence of a number of falconers and enthusiasts of heritage competitions and traditional hunting from inside and outside the country.
The falconry competition includes 6 rounds of the Talwah competitions (4 rounds for the chicks category, two rounds for the jernas category), for which 30 prizes worth 930 thousand dirhams are allocated.
The first day witnessed wide participation from falconers from inside and outside the country, with a total of about 113 participants, while the second day’s competitions will continue tomorrow in the (Gear Pure, Qarmousha Gir) Granas round, and on the third day competitions will be held in the two rounds (Gear Pure Chicken, Qarmousha Gir Chicken). As for the fourth day, two races will be held (Gir Shaheen Farkh, Gir Tabab Farkh).
The committee set a special path of 400 meters from the starting point to the finishing point.
The falconry competition is considered one of the competitions that attracts the interest of many young people interested in reviving the sport of their fathers and grandfathers. The competition is closely linked to heritage and is organized every year within the Al Dhafra Festival in order to preserve the authentic heritage of falconry, introduce it and pass it on to successive generations, in addition to promoting the concept of hunting. Sustainable hunting among falconers and traditional hunting enthusiasts.
