Dubai Roads opens a main bridge 1,000 meters long

Yesterday, the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai opened a main bridge with a capacity of two lanes and a length of 1,000 metres, serving traffic coming from Hessa Street to Al Khail Road, and achieving free traffic movement to the city center and Dubai International Airport, and contributing to reducing the travel time from Hessa Street to Hessa Street. Al Khail from 15 minutes to three minutes, and the Authority announced the completion of 54% of the total Hessa Street development project, which includes the development of four main intersections, and the intersections will open in the fourth quarter of next year.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, said that the Hessa Street development project, from its intersection with Sheikh Zayed Road to its intersection with Al Khail Road, with a length of 4.5 km, comes in implementation of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President The UAE Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, and the follow-up of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, Chairman of the Executive Council For the Emirate of Dubai, by completing the development of the road network infrastructure, to keep pace with the continuous development witnessed by the Emirate of Dubai, and to accommodate the needs of urban development and population growth.

He added that the project includes developing four main intersections on Hessa Street, with Sheikh Zayed Road, First Al Khail Street, Al Asayel Street, and Al Khail Street, with a length of 4.5 kilometers, in addition to increasing the number of lanes on Hessa Street from two lanes to four lanes in each direction, which contributes to increasing… The street capacity increased by 100%, from 8,000 vehicles per hour in both directions to 16,000 vehicles per hour, and the implementation of a 13.5-meter bicycle path. km, and the total cost of the project amounts to 689 million dirhams. Al Tayer said that the Hessa Street development project is one of the most important infrastructure development projects for the road network, and it serves a number of residential and development areas, such as the Al Sufouh Second area, the Al Barsha residential area, and the Jumeirah Village Circle.

He said that the population of the areas served by the project is expected to reach more than 640,000 people in 2030.

The project includes the development of four main intersections, the first of which is the intersection of Hessa Street with Sheikh Zayed Road, by implementing a two-lane directive ramp, which passes over the route of the Dubai Metro Red Line, and serves traffic heading right from Sheikh Zayed Road to Hessa Street east towards Emirates Road. The second is to develop the intersection of Hessa Street with First Al Khail Street by increasing the number of lanes on the existing bridge of Hessa Street, from three to four lanes in each direction, and implementing irrigated improvements to the signal-controlled surface intersection. Traffic lights, and the third is to develop the intersection of Hessa Street with Al-Asayel Street by increasing the number of lanes on the current bridge from two lanes to four lanes in each direction along Hessa Street, and implementing traffic improvements at the surface intersection governed by a traffic light. As for the fourth intersection that will be developed within the project, it is the intersection of Hessa Street. Hessa with Al Khail Street, which includes the implementation of a direct bridge link consisting of two lanes, and serves traffic heading from Hessa Street to Al Khail Street north towards Sharjah.

It is worth noting that the Hessa Street development project also includes the implementation of paths for bicycles and electric scooters, with a length of 13.5 km, linking the Al Sufouh and Dubai Hills areas through Hessa Street, and serving a number of residential areas, such as the Al Barsha area and Al Barsha Heights.

The new bicycle path is unique in implementing two bridges for bicycles and pedestrians with a unique engineering design. The first crosses Sheikh Zayed Road and the second Al Khail Street, with a width of five meters (three of which are for the bicycle and electric scooter path, and two meters for the pedestrian path).

The project contributes to enhancing first- and last-mile trips, by connecting with the Dubai Internet City metro station, and commercial and service attractions in the region, and the path’s capacity is estimated at about 5,200 users per hour.
