Ammar bin Humaid praises Ajman’s accession to"ISO" Environmental, social and governance sustainability

Ajman, December 26 / WAM / His Highness Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman, Chairman of the Executive Council, praised the Emirate of Ajman’s accession to the “ISO” Environmental, Social Sustainability and Governance, stressing that the emirate’s adoption of the new ISO standard reflects its commitment to providing an advanced urban environment, It is in line with the highest international standards, and achieves a balance between economic, social and environmental development.
His Highness said that this achievement reflects Ajman’s keenness to develop solid foundations for growth and prosperity, with a focus on using reliable and internationally approved indicators to measure and track progress in sustainability and direct policy priorities through the lens of a smart, sustainable and flexible city.
His Highness the Crown Prince of Ajman received, in his office at the Amiri Diwan, Her Excellency Dr. Hajar Saeed Al Hubaishi, Director General of the Ajman Statistics Center, who presented the details of the Emirate of Ajman’s accession and its explanation of the new ISO standard for cities.
The announcement of Ajman joining ISO came during the World Council for City Data and Unified Urban Standards conference, which was held in the Toronto City Council Hall in Canada, in the presence of a large presence of the world’s leading cities and regions.
Dr. Hajar Al-Hubaishi said that this step reflects Ajman’s commitment to becoming a leader in the field of governance-based statistical indicators to ensure a prosperous and sustainable future.
She added that Ajman’s adoption of the new ISO standard for cities represents a pivotal step in our journey towards achieving sustainable development, and the emirate is ready to move to a new phase, strengthening its position among the world’s leading cities in achieving sustainable development.
She stressed that the center is working to take all necessary measures to implement the new standard, in line with the emirate’s aspirations, towards achieving sustainable development, and strengthening its position as a leading center at the global level, in the field of applying environmental, social and governance sustainability standards.
Al-Hubaishi pointed out that this trend in adopting the new standard reflects Ajman’s vision, which focuses on achieving comprehensive and sustainable development, and supports the emirate’s efforts in strengthening its international partnerships in the field of urban indicators and developing a sustainable investment environment capable of achieving the emirate’s attraction factors in many areas. .
The emirate recently participated in a joint project between the World City Data Council and the United Nations, which helped build a set of high-quality indicators to assess risks and build a flexible strategy to make the emirate more prepared to deal with increasing climate changes.
As a result of this project with the World City Data Council and the United Nations Agency for Disaster Risk Reduction, Ajman has become a member of the United Nations Initiative to Make Cities Resilient by 2030, and the emirate is preparing to host a meeting of cities involved in this project next year.
The Emirate of Ajman enjoys a strong and sustainable partnership with the World Council for City Data and Unified Urban Metrics. Since 2020, Ajman has become part of the Council’s network, which aims to improve the quality of data related to the urban, economic and social fields of cities, globally, and also aims to create a unified platform, It allows displaying indicators and making standard comparisons between participating cities, which helps to use these indicators to develop plans and measure urban and development performance, in a way that supports improving the quality of life of residents.
The International City Data Council is working on issuing the specification for urban indicators (ISO), which specifies the methodologies and standards necessary to measure the performance of cities, while a third party, the Unified Urban Standards, is responsible for confirming the accuracy and validity of the application of these measurements, ensuring that the indicators presented, It is in line with international requirements, and is credible and transparent.
The Emirate of Ajman recently obtained ISO certificates in cooperation with local and federal authorities, namely the Sustainable Cities ISO “ISO 37120”, the ISO Smart Cities Certificate “ISO 37122”, and the ISO Resilient Cities Certificate “ISO 37123”, making it the first in the Middle East, and the seventh. globally, which obtained three ISO certificates for global cities combined in the same year, which reflects the emirate’s commitment to applying the highest international standards in Developing cities and enhancing the quality of life.
