Greece… Heavy rain causes disturbances in Athens and Evia

Water resulting from continuous heavy rains in Athens flooded the roads and caused other disturbances in many parts of the country overnight and continued until this morning.
The Greek newspaper “Ekatimerini” reported that most of the problems witnessed by the Greek capital were concentrated in the northern and southern suburbs, where waterlogging of the coastal Poseidonos Street and other main roads was reported.
Police had to redirect vehicles through Vouliagmenis Street, after the extension of Poseidonos Street, located between Alimos and Kalamaki, was closed.
Fire services also responded to dozens of calls from residents – many of them in the Kifisia region in the north – requesting assistance in pumping water from basements and other properties.
On the island of Evia, the authorities continue to closely monitor the Misapos River, which flows through the center of the island, after its water levels rose yesterday evening, Wednesday, due to continuing rainfall, while firefighters were able to rescue a family with a young child, after a car got stuck in the mud.
The authorities advised motorists to be careful while driving.
