A boat capsized off Morocco and at least 69 migrants drowned

The authorities in Mali said: “At least 69 people died, including 25 Malian citizens, after a boat heading from West Africa to Spain capsized off the coast of Morocco this December, as about 80 people were on board the boat when it capsized.

The Ministry of Malian Citizens Abroad Affairs said in a statement yesterday, Thursday, after collecting information about the accident that only 11 people survived, and added that a crisis unit had been formed to follow up on the situation and would announce any subsequent developments.
The migration route from the West African coast to the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean, which is usually taken by African migrants trying to reach Spain, has seen a significant rise in the number of migrants this year.
