Urgent: Dozens of people were killed in the explosion of a plane carrying 181 people in South Korea

A passenger plane veered off the runway at an airport in South Korea and caught fire, killing at least 96 people.

 

 

 

The Associated Press said that a Jeju Airlines plane ran off the runway in South Korea and crashed into a fence, killing at least 96 passengers.

Yonhap News Agency attributed the devastating accident to a defect in the landing gear.

Jeju Air, a low-cost airline in South Korea, was carrying 175 Passengers and six crew members were on board the Boeing 737-800 when the accident occurred Sunday morning local time at Muan International Airport in Muan District, South Jeolla Province, about 180 miles south of Seoul.

 

 

The plane landed at 9:07 am local time at the airport when the accident occurred. 

The agency reported Associated Press: The passenger plane crashed into a concrete fence on the runway after the front landing gear failed to deploy. 

The National Fire Agency said officials were still trying to extract people from underneath. The rubble.

Yonhap News Agency reported that the plane was on its way back to South Korea from Thailand.

Photos published by local media showed smoke rising from the plane.
