A 5.6 magnitude earthquake strikes the island of Luzon in the Philippines

An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale struck the Philippine island of Luzon today.

The German Geological Sciences Research Center (GFZ) said that the earthquake occurred at a depth of ten kilometers.

For its part, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said that the earthquake shook the northern town of Bangui in Ilocos Province, and no damage is expected, indicating that there will likely be aftershocks from the earthquake.
