United Nations: Climate change will cause extreme weather events in 2024

The World Meteorological Organization announced that climate change will cause extreme weather conditions and record temperatures in 2024, calling on the world to abandon the “path to doom.”
2024 is expected to be the warmest year ever, according to the United Nations.
This year also saw record greenhouse gas emissions.
“Climate change is occurring before our eyes on an almost daily basis, with the frequency and impact of extreme weather events increasing,” said Celeste Saulo, Secretary-General of the Organization.

Huge losses

She added, “This year we witnessed record rainfall and floods and huge losses in human lives in many countries, which caused sadness in the souls of many societies across the continents.”
The World Meteorological Organization noted that “tropical cyclones have left a huge human and economic toll, the latest of which occurred in the French department of Mayotte in the Indian Ocean.”
She recalled “the extreme temperature that affected dozens of countries, exceeding 50 degrees Celsius several times, and the damage caused by forest fires.”

Long lasting

The long-term goal of the Paris Climate Agreement concluded in 2015 is to contain climate warming and limit the average temperature rise on the planet to less than 2 degrees Celsius, or 1.5 degrees if possible, compared to the rate that prevailed before the industrial revolution.
The World Meteorological Organization announced in November that the average surface air temperature between January and September was 1.54 degrees Celsius higher than the average that prevailed between 1850 and 1900.
