Archer said, in a statement to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, on the occasion of the imminent start of the activities of the third edition of the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open Tennis Championship, which will be held at the International Tennis Complex in Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi, during the period from the first to the eighth of February 2025, that the tournament being held In the 500-point category, there is great competition from participating players to raise their global rankings at the beginning of the season, which attracts many players to it.
She added that the tournament witnessed, in its past two editions, the participation of elite female players such as Ons Jabeur, Aryina Sabalenka, Naomi Osaka, Emma Raducano, and the Kazakh champion Elena Rybakina, and this qualitative presence of female players contributed to the success of the tournament and the increased demand for it.
The CEO of the Women’s Tennis Association announced that the last edition of the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open Tennis Championship witnessed the participation of 8 of the 20 best players in the world, and the singles champion, Elena Rybakina, was awarded $142,000 as a financial prize, in addition to 500 points in the association’s rankings.
Regarding the success of the Middle East region and the Emirates in becoming a major destination on the global tennis agenda, she stressed that the large fan base, qualified infrastructure, and the passion of the fans are all things that contributed to the Emirates assuming this position, because all the capabilities and qualifications are available, expressing her hope for more. Cooperating with the Emirates in order to achieve the best for the game.
She said that Abu Dhabi is witnessing a qualitative shift in supporting the sports sector, which is important for expanding the base of cooperation, pointing out that the role of the association is to provide more expertise and support.
She added that the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship will soon celebrate its 25th edition, a major achievement in the Middle East, and that it is the 1,000-point category, this is also a major event for the men’s category and has distinguished it over the past years.
Archer confirmed that the organizing committee of the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open Tennis Championship will work to establish a tennis village, and it will have many different events and activities for fans of the game, the possibility of meeting female players, and participating in a draw for many prizes, in addition to free entry for children during the first five days of the tournament.
