She started becoming famous at a young age, as she was working to bring income to the family, but later she surpassed all dreams when she became the main source of income for them, and after the year 1916 AD, her father got to know her. Both Sheikh Zakaria Ahmed and Abu Al-Ala Muhammad, who convinced the father to move to Cairo with his daughter Umm Kulthum. In 1921, she returned to Cairo and settled there permanently, and in 1923 AD she sang in a concert that brought together prominent people. She sang at another concert in which many female singers gathered, the most prominent of whom was Munira al-Mahdia, who was called the Sultana of Tarab, and in 1924 she met Ahmed Rami, who was the basis for highlighting her stardom.

In 1935 she sang “On the Country of the Beloved and My Religion” It was composed by Riad Al-Sunbati, and Al-Sunbati continued to compose for Umm Kulthum for 40 years.

 

Umm Kulthum went through the experience of composing for herself in two songs “On My Eyes of Desertion, I Wish I Was the Breeze” In 1943, she founded the first musicians’ union and was its first president. She remained in the position for ten years. In addition to artistic work, Umm Kulthum had an effective contribution in many difficult situations, whether in Egypt or the Arab region, where she contributed to financing the first Palestinian revolution in 1936 AD, and participated in The activities of establishing the League of Arab States in 1946 AD.

 

It also donated all its money to Egypt after the forces of the tripartite aggression issued A decision to freeze Egyptian assets abroad, and after the defeat of June 5, 1967 AD, Umm Kulthum was traveling around the Arab countries and some foreign countries to collect millions for Egypt and its army to donate to the war effort. During her artistic career, the lady of Arab singing received many awards and honors, as she received the Order of Merit, First Class, in the year 1960, the Cedar Medal from Lebanon in 1959, the Order of Merit, First Class from Syria, and the Grand Order of the Republic from Tunisia. Egypt also gave her the Nile Necklace and a diplomatic passport as the first passport from Its type is awarded to an artist in addition to the state’s discretionary award, the value of which was waived in favor of the Artists’ Pension Fund. She was awarded the Al-Rafidain Medal from the Iraqi government in 1946, and she was awarded the Republic Medal from Tunisian President Bourguiba in 1968.

Umm Kulthum knew her way to glory from a young age
