In a new global precedent added to the Kingdom’s record of achievements in the field of environmental sustainability, Al-Ahsa Municipality inaugurated the first road in the world completely recycled from construction waste, thus recording a milestone in the history of road paving and waste recycling.
This initiative was the result of fruitful cooperation between the Al-Ahsa Municipality and the Ministry of Transport, represented by the General Authority for Roads and the National Center for Waste Management, where the experiment was applied on the King Abdullah Ring Road in Al-Ahsa Governorate. With the aim of enhancing environmental sustainability and developing more efficient infrastructure, in response to environmental challenges.
The official spokesman for Al-Ahsa Municipality, Khaled Boushel, explained to Al-Youm that the idea of ​​the project stemmed from the desire to transform construction waste from an environmental burden into an economic resource, noting that the technical teams sorted the construction waste in the municipality’s environmental landfill, and subjected it to several tests in Waste sorting station, to ensure its conformity with technical specifications and raise its efficiency and reliability in the paving process.

Road bearing heavy loads

He stressed that the experiment, which was carried out at a distance of one kilometer from King Abdullah Ring Road, proved extremely successful, as the new pavement could bear the weights of various vehicles with great efficiency, adding that this road is a vital artery in Al-Ahsa, as it connects the regions of the governorate to each other, and witnesses heavy traffic. .
He pointed out that this initiative represents an important step in the process of achieving the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 in the field of environmental sustainability and the circular economy, and confirms the Kingdom’s keenness to transform challenges into opportunities, and to benefit from available resources in the best possible ways.
Bushell added: “We are very proud of this achievement, which contributes to the Kingdom’s leadership in the field of environmental sustainability, and strengthens its position as a global center for innovation in various fields.”
Bushell stressed that Al-Ahsa Municipality will work to transfer this pioneering experience to other regions in the Kingdom, in cooperation with the competent authorities, with the aim of spreading the benefit and achieving the highest levels of sustainability throughout the country.
