US airlines cancel 1,300 flights due to a winter storm

Airlines in the United States canceled more than 1,300 flights on Monday due to a winter storm bringing snow, ice, and temperatures reaching zero in vast areas of the country.

Flight tracking website FlightAware reported that a total of 1,306 flights had been canceled and another 414 flights were delayed as of 1013 GMT.

Southwest Airlines had the largest number of canceled flights, with 264 flights, followed by American Airlines, which canceled 176 flights.

Airlines including Southwest, American, United, and Delta also issued warnings about flights being affected by the storm.

The US Federal Aviation Administration warned on Friday that strong winds accompanying the storm, snowfall and some frost may affect travel in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.
