France will not lose Trump’s respect and will be a strong ally

French President Emmanuel Macron said that his country is a “strong ally” of US President-elect Donald Trump, and outlined his vision for global diplomacy in 2025.
He warned that France might lose the respect of the next American leader if it became “weak and defeatist.”
Macron added in a speech he delivered on the occasion of the New Year at the Elysee Palace: “Donald Trump knows that he has a strong ally in France, an ally that he does not underestimate, who believes in Europe and has a clear ambition for the transatlantic relationship.”
Macron stressed France’s commitment to strengthening cooperation, while urging European countries to strengthen their unity and steadfastness.

France’s foreign policy priorities

Last month, Trump visited Paris for the grand reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral, an occasion that underscored the strong ties between France and the United States.

Macron warned: “If we decide to be weak and defeatist, our chances of gaining the respect of the United States under President Trump will diminish.”
Macron’s speech, delivered against a backdrop of geopolitical turmoil, outlined France’s foreign policy priorities, which include the Ukraine war, European defense and the Middle East.
