Announcing the Spain national team roster… “Giant Barcelona” is the most prominent new name

Spain national team coach, Luis de la Fuente, called up Barcelona’s brilliant goalkeeper, Joan Garcia, on Friday to a squad of 27 players, to be among four new arrivals to “La Roja”, in preparation for the two friendly matches later this month.
As part of its preparations for the World Cup, the European champion will face Serbia on the 27th of this month in Villarreal, before facing Egypt four days later.
The match against Serbia was played as an alternative to the canceled “Finalisima” against Argentina, the world and Copa America champions, which was scheduled in Doha, due to the war in the Middle East.
The match against Egypt was also transferred from Qatar to Barcelona for the same reason.
Garcia played 35 matches in various competitions this season since joining the Catalan giant from his neighbor Espanyol.
There were doubts about his injury earlier this week after his forced exit late in the match against Newcastle, England, which ended with a crushing 7-2 victory for his team in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final.
Arsenal’s English defender, Christian Mosquera, Real Sociedad striker Ander Barrenetxea and Osasuna’s Victor Muñoz were also called up to the national team for the first time.
On the other hand, winger Nico Williams continues to be absent due to injury, in addition to Gavi, who has played only one match as a substitute with his Barcelona team since his return from a severe knee injury.
Spain is among the teams nominated to compete for the World Cup title this year in North America, where it will play in Group H, alongside Uruguay, Saudi Arabia, and Cape Verde.
