The death toll from the Tibet earthquake in China has risen to 53 people

At least 53 people were killed as a result of the severe earthquake that struck Tuesday in the Tibet region in the Himalayas, southwest of China, near the border with Nepal.

The new Chinese news agency, Xinhua, reported that 53 people were killed and 62 injured as a result of the 6.8-magnitude earthquake that shook Dingri Canton at 9:05, after a previous toll reported 23 deaths.
She explained, according to a report issued by the Chinese Center for Earthquake Networks, that the epicenter of the earthquake was monitored at the intersection of latitude 28.5 degrees north and longitude 87.45 degrees east, where the earthquake struck at a depth of 10 kilometers.

The Chinese National Seismological Agency reported that an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 struck Dingri Canton near the Chinese-Nepal border at 9:05 (1:05 ​​GMT), while the American Institute of Geological Studies reported that the intensity of the earthquake reached 7.1 degrees.

She added that residents of “Dingri Canton and its vicinity felt the tremors strongly, and several buildings collapsed near the epicenter” of the earthquake.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located about 370 km southwest of Lhasa, the largest city in Tibet, according to data from the National Seismic Center.
