"New York Abu Dhabi" Launches a doctoral program in astrophysics and space systems

ABU DHABI, 8 JANUARY / WAM / New York University Abu Dhabi today announced the launch of a new doctoral program in astrophysics and space systems, which extends for five academic years, under the supervision of international scientists and researchers at NYU Abu Dhabi. Applications for admission to the program will continue until January 15 of this year.

The program offers both a theoretical astrophysics track and an engineering-focused space systems track, preparing graduates for careers in academic institutions and in the growing areas of the space industry and exploration.

His Excellency Dr. Sultan bin Saif Al Neyadi, Minister of State for Youth Affairs, emphasized the vital role of education and innovation in space sciences as basic pillars for driving progress on Earth and beyond, noting that this program would contribute to preparing distinguished national cadres to support the national space strategy, with inspiration. Future generations to transcend borders, explore new horizons, and participate in realizing the common aspirations of humanity.

The program includes a distinct research component, as it requires the completion of a three-year research project and ends with a doctoral thesis. The program is designed to ensure that students are trained to create, implement and complete complex tasks through an integrated series of coursework and research.

His Excellency Salem Butti Al Qubaisi, Director General of the Emirates Space Agency, stressed that the launch of the doctoral program in astrophysics and space systems enhances the chain of academic space education in the country, as space research and education are essential to the country’s vision to enhance knowledge and innovation, describing the doctoral program as an important step in strengthening the position of the UAE. The program is scheduled to launch in the fall of 2025, relying on the expertise of a wide range of NYU Abu Dhabi professors, to graduate a number of scientists and engineers who will participate in designing and analyzing data for future space missions.
