Arab Plast Exhibition: $100 billion contribution of petrochemicals to the Gulf economy

DUBAI, 9 JANUARY / WAM / The Plastics, Petrochemicals, Recycling and Sustainability Exhibition “Arab Plast 2025” in Dubai witnessed the signing of agreements between Emirati, Gulf and European petrochemical companies to establish projects that produce raw materials that serve the environment and sustainability goals, with a value exceeding 100 million dirhams.
According to the exhibition organizers, participating specialists announced that the petrochemical industry contributes significantly to the gross domestic product of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, with its total revenues exceeding 100 billion US dollars.
They expected that the rate of recycling plastic materials in the Middle East region would rise by 9.3% by next year, noting that the Gulf countries produce more than 35 million tons of plastic annually, which constitutes 15% of the global production volume, and 85% of it is exported to… abroad, pointing out that the plastics production sector is promising in the region, achieves billions of dollars in profits, and employs more than 150,000 people.
Manufacturers expected the production of plastics, petrochemicals and rubber in the UAE to grow by more than 6% during the current decade.
Arab Plast concluded its 17th session at the Dubai World Trade Center today, Thursday, announcing the reception of more than 25,000 visitors, specialists and experts in the plastics, petrochemicals, recycling and sustainability industries over the course of 3 days.
More than 750 international companies specialized in the plastics, petrochemicals and recycling sector from 35 countries participated in the exhibition, which is the largest exhibition for plastics and petrochemicals in the Middle East and North Africa, while the number of local companies participating this year increased to more than 50 companies.
Florin Mikulash, responsible for the German pavilion at the exhibition, said that 70 German companies participated in the exhibition and displayed the latest German technologies and machines in the field of this industry and recycling, noting that the participation of this large number comes from the fact that the exhibition is an important global platform that brings together those interested in these industries from countries around the world. different.
Petra Coleman, CEO of the German company Messe Dusseldorf, said that the exhibition attracts thousands of visitors daily to learn about the latest plastic manufacturing machines and developments in this industry globally, noting that German companies displayed robots specialized in this field, and a plastic manufacturing machine that is the longest and largest. Globally.
Nidal Muhammad, General Manager of Arab Plast, said that the exhibition witnessed large participation from Southeast Asian and African countries, which reflects the great interest in the petrochemical, plastic and rubber industries, noting that 52 companies participated in the UAE pavilion and 13 in the Saudi pavilion.
He stated that the exhibition is witnessing an increasing growth in the number of international companies and factories participating year after year, noting that the current session paid great attention to sustainability, recycling, and supporting the circular economy.
Khaled Khalifa Al Kaabi, Executive Director of the Fujairah Plastic Factories Group, said that the company displayed materials used in the plastic industry that decompose it in less than a year instead of decomposing it over hundreds of years, pointing out that the exhibition focused on recycling as an ideal solution for sustainability and environmental protection. He stated that the exhibition was keen to motivate leaders of the petrochemical and plastics industries to adopt circular practices that reduce the environmental impact of their industries.
