Includes 60 government buildings/ "Energy and infrastructure" Implementation of the first phase of the project to reduce energy and water consumption begins

Abu Dhabi, 24 March / WAM / The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure announced the start of implementation of the first phase of the project to reduce energy and water consumption in federal government buildings, which began its work from Abdullah bin Omran Hospital in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, to include 60 government buildings nationwide, with investments amounting to 120 million dirhams, as part of the Ministry’s commitment to accelerating the pace of transformation towards higher efficiency in energy consumption, and in support of the objectives of the National Strategy for Managing Energy and Water Demand.

The step comes within an integrated plan that extends to a second phase that includes 360 federal government buildings at an estimated cost of one billion dirhams, and fully funded by the private sector, reflecting the adoption of an effective partnership model with the private sector to achieve sustainable savings in energy and water consumption at the state level.

His Excellency Engineer Sherif Al Olama, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for Energy and Petroleum Affairs, confirmed that the launch of work on the hospital represents an important executive step within a strategic program aimed at enhancing the efficiency of government buildings, reducing carbon emissions, and achieving sustainable savings in energy and water consumption, in line with the country’s trends in sustainability and energy demand management.

He explained that the national project, which includes 60 government buildings, will contribute to achieving savings of up to 27% of the total energy and water consumption in the targeted buildings, and contribute to achieving the state’s goals with regard to reducing carbon emissions in the building sector and the sustainability of government buildings.

His Excellency pointed out that the scope of works in the Abdullah Omran Hospital project includes an integrated technical solutions package that includes replacing air conditioning units with highly efficient ones, upgrading lighting systems with energy-saving technologies, replacing pumps with more efficient systems, in addition to applying advanced engineering solutions to raise the efficiency of energy and water consumption in accordance with the best international standards.

He pointed out that the project is being implemented in partnership with the private sector through an innovative financing model that relies on full financing from the private partner without direct financial burdens on the government, which enhances financial sustainability and embodies the effectiveness of the partnership between the public and private sectors in energy efficiency projects.

His Excellency said that the project comes within the framework of supporting the objectives of the National Strategy for Energy Demand Management 2050, and consolidating a more efficient and sustainable government buildings system, which contributes to achieving a long-term environmental and economic impact.
