Brazilian Minister of Energy: "COP30" An opportunity to educate the world about the importance of investing in clean energy

Abu Dhabi, January 13 / WAM / His Excellency Alexandre Silveira, Minister of Mines and Energy of the Federal Republic of Brazil, confirmed that Brazil, through its presidency of COP30; It aims to develop critical documents agreed upon by all parties to accelerate the energy transition throughout the world.

He expressed his country’s aspiration to welcome the world to the COP30 Conference of the Parties, which Brazil will host next November, in the lung of global sustainability, the Amazon rainforest.

His Excellency said in a statement to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, on the sidelines of the fifteenth session of the General Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), which began yesterday in Abu Dhabi and concludes today, that “COP30” is an opportunity to educate the world and encourage them to make more investments in an appropriate manner so that All countries can fulfill their international obligations, adding that through Brazil’s strategic position on the climate action map, it can attract investments to countries of the Global South.

He pointed out that guaranteed sustainability will only be achieved thanks to investments, specifically in the least developed countries, so that the world will be able to achieve social justice and implement a just and comprehensive energy transition.

Regarding the 15th General Assembly meetings of IRENA, His Excellency Silveira said that Brazil’s presence today is an acknowledgment of the strong progress made by countries in the global transition towards renewable and clean energy, stressing the necessity of bringing parties together in this type of event to accelerate climate action and achieve fair global ambitions.

In this context, His Excellency indicated their approval of two basic documents during the G20 meetings, where the first document highlights the pursuit of energy planning, with the aim of strengthening Brazil’s position in fairness to the countries of the Global South by recognizing the importance of combating energy poverty.

The second document states that the energy transition opportunity must be a sustainable economic opportunity, explaining the importance of investments to generate job opportunities and income, and that they must be fair, comprehensive and balanced, respect the sovereignty of countries, and respect the energy pluralism that Brazil and other countries possess.

It should be noted that the International Renewable Energy Agency recently announced its aspiration to unveil two initiatives with the COP30 presidency in mid-February that address aspects of investments in South America.
