"Emirates Libraries" Launches innovative activities to enhance the role of school libraries

SHARJAH, 15 JANUARY / WAM / During the month of January, the Emirates Library and Information Association is organizing a group of events in cooperation with “Maktabah” affiliated with the Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi, with the aim of enhancing the role of school libraries in improving education and scientific research and supporting school librarians with modern skills and tools and keeping pace with… Recent developments in the field of libraries and information, reflecting the importance of these institutions in building a sustainable knowledge society.
The most prominent activities organized by the association include a session entitled “Artificial Intelligence in School Libraries: Practical Applications to Improve Education and Scientific Research,” focusing on employing artificial intelligence techniques to support school libraries, while highlighting tools such as smart recommendation systems to improve the experience of students and teachers, and text analysis applications to facilitate… Search for information accurately and quickly.
The activities also include a training workshop entitled “Training school librarians to teach students scientific research using modern methods,” which aims to enable librarians to teach students effective scientific research methods using modern technologies, including open source platforms and electronic databases, and a workshop entitled “ “Developing Collections in School Libraries” deals with strategies for selecting educational materials and books appropriate for different stages of education, with a focus on diversifying the content to include digital materials and interactive sources.
Fahd Al Mamari, President of the Emirates Library and Information Association, said that school libraries represent an essential part of the educational process, pointing out the importance of integrating technologies such as artificial intelligence and digital transformation into their environment to enhance their capabilities in supporting students and teachers.
He explained that these events represent an important opportunity for those working in the school library sector to gain knowledge from the best international practices and exchange experiences with their counterparts, which contributes to improving the educational research experience within libraries, supporting students in accessing diverse and reliable educational sources, and enhancing the role of libraries as an integrated and advanced educational environment.
