"Europe is a sleeping giant"Starmer calls for reducing dependence on America

The British Prime Minister intends urged Europe to reduce its reliance on on the defense level, in a speech he will deliver at the Munich Security Conference, according to what his office announced on Friday.
Excerpts from the speech he will deliver came Saturday, published by the Prime Minister’s Office: "I’m talking about a vision of European security and greater European independence" This does not mean an American withdrawal "Rather, it is in response to a call that calls for greater burden-sharing and reformulates ties"
European Leaders
This conference comes as European leaders remain concerned that it will no longer be possible to rely on the United States, led by Donald Trump, as a guarantor of their security.
Since his return to the White House last year, Trump has repeatedly criticized European countries for not adequately sharing the burden of common defense, and has raised questions about the future of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
Confronting Moscow
He is quick to confront Moscow. European members of NATO need to strengthen their defenses in the face of an increasingly aggressive Moscow, whose war in Ukraine will enter its fifth year this month.
Starmer’s quotes read: "As I see it, Europe is a sleeping giant. Our economies are ten times larger than Russia’s (…) We have enormous defense capabilities"
European Security
Downing Street added that Starmer will use his speech to call for closer defense cooperation between the United Kingdom and the European Union.
In his speech, Starmer will explain: "There is no British security without Europe, and no European security without Britain. This is the lesson of history, and it is the reality of today as well".
