Under the directives of the President of the State and the follow-up of Theyab bin Mohammed bin Zayed, the UAE and Uganda sign an agreement to build an eye hospital worth $20 million.

Abu Dhabi, January 17 / WAM / Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, “may God protect him”, and under the follow-up of His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Head of the Presidential Office for Development Affairs and Families of Martyrs, President of the International Humanitarian Affairs Council, President The Board of Trustees of the Zayed Humanitarian Legacy Foundation, and within the Emirates International Hospitals Programme, the UAE and the friendly Republic of Uganda signed an agreement to build an integrated, specialized Emirati hospital. The agreement was signed by the UAE, His Excellency Sultan Mohammed Al Shamsi, Vice President of the Emirates International Aid Agency, and His Excellency Vincent Bagiri Waiswa, Permanent Secretary of the Ugandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohammed bin Zayed stressed, on this occasion, that the agreement to build the hospital embodies the interest of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to support and enhance health sector services, and to provide appropriate medical care to patients in need on the African continent, based on His Highness’s belief in the necessity of The UAE is the first to come to the rescue of the most needy peoples, and is a beacon for people and humanity in the world, and to contribute an active role in serving humanity, and to remain the best support for the needy and the sick wherever they are.
His Highness said that the hospital reflects the humanitarian and cultural mission of the UAE, and its keenness to develop development sectors and enhance community services, especially in the health sector in various countries in need around the world, as it is one of the important sectors that receive international priority and within the sustainable development goals.
His Highness pointed out that this initiative comes within the Emirates International Hospitals Programme, which comes within the framework of the Zayed Humanitarian Legacy Initiative, which aims to build 10 specialized hospitals within a decade on various continents of the world, so that these hospitals will be an extension of the spirit of cooperation and solidarity that has always characterized the foreign policy of the UAE. And in confirmation of its firm commitment to achieving sustainable development and improving the lives of people in various countries of the world.
For his part, His Excellency Sheikh Shakhbut bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State and Chairman of the Health Advisory Committee for International Development, stressed that the signing of this agreement comes in the context of the distinguished bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, which are witnessing new horizons of joint cooperation in many vital fields, especially in The field of health care by implementing development projects that meet societal needs and work to find sustainable and pioneering solutions that benefit thousands of patients who suffer from eye problems.
His Excellency pointed out that the construction of the hospital in the Ugandan city of Entebbe reflects the keenness of the leadership of the two friendly countries to develop bilateral relations and move forward towards achieving health development goals.
