A Russian city records the highest temperature in five decades

Yesterday, the Russian city of Vladivostok recorded the highest temperature in more than five decades, as the air temperature rose to 2.8 degrees Celsius, breaking the previous record set in 1969.

The local meteorological service, Premgedromet, said in a statement, reported by Russia Today, that the new record exceeded the previous record of 2.0 degrees Celsius, which had stood for more than 50 years.

Meteorologists noted that such temperature increases during January are rare in Vladivostok, which is known for its cold climate during the winter.

Yesterday was an exceptionally warm day in the 21st century only in 2010, when the temperature reached 0.4 degrees Celsius.

The city usually experiences minimum temperatures between -10 and -16 degrees Celsius at this time of year, with maximum temperatures of -4 and -9 degrees Celsius.

However, the years 2006, 2008 and 2021 were among the most notable years that witnessed record low temperatures, reaching -20 and -23 degrees Celsius.
