Discussing strengthening cooperation between the Sharjah Chamber and the Indian state of Kerala

Sharjah, January 21 / WAM / The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry discussed with the Indian state of Kerala frameworks of cooperation in many economic fields of common interest and developing joint work in the field of international commercial arbitration.

This came during the meeting held by His Excellency Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with His Excellency B. Rajeev, Minister of Industry and Law in the Indian state of Kerala, today at the Chamber’s headquarters in the presence of His Excellency Mohammed Ahmed Amin Al Awadhi, Director General of the Sharjah Chamber, Abdul Aziz Al Shamsi, Assistant Director General of the Communications and Business Sector, Dr. Ahmed Saleh Al Ajla, Director of the Sharjah Center for International Commercial Arbitration “Tahkeem” affiliated with the Sharjah Chamber, and a number of officials in Both sides.

The meeting discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the Emirate of Sharjah and the State of Kerala in the fields of economy, industry and tourism, in addition to the importance of enhancing the benefit of existing economic partnerships and agreements between the UAE and India to develop trade exchange and support cooperation in priority sectors.

The two sides also discussed ways to intensify meetings between investors and businessmen from both sides to exchange experiences and knowledge and coordinate to present various areas of cooperation in a way that contributes to establishing joint investment projects that benefit the business communities of the two countries.

His Excellency B. Rajeev invited the Chairman of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and members of the Chamber to attend the Global Investment Summit in Kerala scheduled to be held on February 21 and 22 at the Lolo Bolgatty International Convention Centre.

His Excellency Abdullah Sultan Al Owais praised the growing relations between the UAE and the Republic of India, stressing the Sharjah Chamber’s keenness to contribute to expanding the horizons of economic and investment cooperation between the two sides, especially in light of the strong strategic partnership that brings together the UAE and India, which is the third largest global trade partner for India, as foreign trade has reached Oil production between the two countries during the first ten months of 2024 amounted to $53.8 billion, with a growth rate of 22.6% compared to the same period in 2023, indicating that The Emirate of Sharjah and the State of Kerala enjoy many promising economic and investment opportunities, and the meeting constitutes an important opportunity to unify efforts towards developing cooperation and coordination to develop the prospects for joint work between the two business communities and to benefit from the joint activities organized by the two sides to introduce the advantages of investment in the two countries, the most prominent of which is the “Discover Kerala” exhibition, which it hosts. Expo Center Sharjah is one of the largest Indian trade festivals in the Middle East.

The meeting reviewed the most prominent laws and legislation that support and stimulate economic growth in the Emirate of Sharjah and the State of Kerala and the advanced legislative structures that both sides have.

The Sharjah Chamber also highlighted the efforts of the Sharjah Center for International Commercial Arbitration “Tahkeem” in terms of spreading the culture of arbitration among legal professionals, professionals and businessmen at the local, regional and international levels, resolving and settling commercial disputes, and holding seminars, training courses and international conferences on commercial disputes.
