Maryam Al Muhairi affirms the UAE’s commitment to global cooperation to achieve a sustainable future for food systems

Maryam bint Mohammed Al Muhairi, Head of the International Affairs Office at the Presidential Office and CEO of Group 2, confirmed thisPointZeroThe UAE’s firm commitment to enhancing international cooperation and adopting innovation to achieve sustainable development, during its participation in the fifty-fifth session of the World Economic Forum (WEF) held in Davos, Switzerland.

Maryam Al Muhairi participated in two high-level sessions, during which she presented a set of ideas and visions that highlighted the pioneering role of the UAE in facing pressing global challenges.

Promoting food security

In a session titled “Food”, Maryam Al Muhairi highlighted the importance of understanding food, climate and agricultural systems in depth to meet growing challenges.

I participated in this session alongside many leading figures from around the world, including Johan Westmann, CEO of the company AAKAnd I’m Louisa Virginia, CFO Jerónimo Martinsand David John Hynes, CEO Flora Food Group.

She said: “Transforming food systems represents one of the most pressing challenges of our time, but at the same time it opens up prospects for shared economic growth, increasing food resilience and security for millions of people, reducing the negative impacts of climate change, and enhancing nutrition systems, health and quality of life for all.”

She highlighted: “Announcement COP28 UAE on Food Systems, Sustainable Agriculture and Climate Action, the first of its kind in the history of the Conferences of the Parties, as a global achievement that contributed to establishing nutrition as an essential part of climate action. She stressed the importance of partnerships and innovation in achieving progress, pointing to the UAE’s partnership with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which includes a project that seeks to secure financing and accelerate the pace of work in developing countries.

“Partnerships are key to success in global food systems projects, as partners can work together to achieve a common vision and achieve impactful and sustainable results,” she added.

Strengthening partnerships

In another session on the future of food, climate and sustainability in the MENA region, Maryam Al Muhairi discussed the importance of developing innovative frameworks for international and regional partnerships and cooperation.

It highlighted the critical roles played by government frameworks, green financing programmes, and technological initiatives, in enabling the private sector to support the implementation of nationally determined contributions (NDCs).NDCs).

The session was attended by prominent figures such as Nour Ali Al-Khalif, Minister of Sustainable Development of Bahrain, and Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Climate Envoy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The role of the private sector

As a former Minister of Climate Change and Environment and CEO of Group 2PointZeroMaryam Al Muhairi, one of the largest investment companies globally, stressed the importance of aligning private sector investments with national goals.

She said: “Governments play a pivotal role in providing the political clarity necessary to stimulate the private sector to support climate goals. A sustainable future vision

She concluded by stressing that this cooperation between national strategies and the private sector represents a driving force towards achieving a more sustainable and inclusive future, and reflects the pioneering role of the UAE in strengthening partnerships that advance sustainable development at the global level.
