UAE: Digital transformation and artificial intelligence are reshaping government services

Abu Dhabi, January 25 / WAM / The UAE represents a leading global model in digital transformation and the adoption of artificial intelligence technologies in the government sector, and is at the forefront of efforts to adopt digitization, artificial intelligence and blockchain technologies at the regional and global levels.
Through the adoption of digitization and artificial intelligence, the UAE has achieved leaps in aspects of government work, its various sectors and ministries. Artificial intelligence has reshaped some ministerial and government services.
The UAE is the first country in the world to appoint a Minister of Artificial Intelligence in 2017, while last year it created the position of “Chief Executive Officer of Artificial Intelligence” in the ministries and federal agencies in the country, who undertakes several tasks such as strategic planning for artificial intelligence in the federal entity, promoting its best practices, and adopting it. Within its units and projects.
According to the National Blockchain Strategy from 2021 to 2031, approximately 50% of government transactions will be transferred to Blockchain, thus promoting the growth of this sector.
The UAE has witnessed the launch of many digital services, which have achieved great success over the past years, such as the digital identity, the “Tamm” platform, and other services launched by various ministries.
The digital identity, as one of the successful digital projects, allows users to access the services of local and federal government agencies and other service providers. It also provides easy solutions to access services via smartphones without the need for a password or user name, in addition to the ability to sign documents digitally and verify documents. of their health without the need to visit service centers, while the “Tamm” platform for digital government services in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi allows access to more than 900 services through a single digital interface.
During the journey of eliminating bureaucracy, the Ministry of Finance succeeded in introducing generative artificial intelligence techniques to provide a smooth, easy, immediate and accurate experience without human intervention.
According to the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, the UAE is one of the first countries to promote the use of innovation and artificial intelligence in clean energy projects, and has spared no effort in promoting innovation and artificial intelligence in the sectors of clean and renewable energy, sustainability, and climate action to reach the goals of climate neutrality.
The UAE ranked first in the world in the communications infrastructure index, according to the United Nations e-Government Survey 2024 report, which focuses on the role of governments in accelerating digital transformation and artificial intelligence.
The UAE leads countries in the region in the government readiness index for artificial intelligence, according to the Oxford Insights report last year, which included 193 countries, driven by relatively high results in the three pillars included in the index, which include “the government, the technology sector, and data and infrastructure.”
The UAE ranked fifth in the Artificial Intelligence Index launched by the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence, which was based on an evaluation of 36 countries based on 42 specialized indicators in the field of artificial intelligence.
According to a report by PwC, which addressed the potential impact of artificial intelligence in the Middle East region, the UAE is expected to witness its largest impact on the economy at approximately 14% of the gross domestic product and $96 billion during 2030.
Ahmed Adly, Vice President of Cloud Technology Engineering in the Middle East and Africa at Oracle Information Technology and Databases, confirmed that the UAE is witnessing exceptional growth in the use of artificial intelligence and cloud computing technologies, thanks to government initiatives that encourage the adoption of technology and enhance its use.
He pointed out that the UAE not only uses artificial intelligence technology, but also develops it using local competencies, which represents a very advanced step in this field.

He pointed out that the UAE has been a pioneer in integrating artificial intelligence into vital sectors since the launch of the “UAE Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031.” It worked to develop its services in the areas of government work, such as health, education, transportation, and infrastructure, with the aim of improving the quality of life and enhancing productivity while reducing operational costs, so that most government services in the country are now provided to customers through digital channels that constantly keep pace with development.
