Until 2027.. America postpones imposing customs duties on Chinese chips

The administration of the US President announced Donald Trump, today, postponed the imposition of Customs duties on Chinese semiconductors until June 2027.

The administration stated that it would announce the rate of duties at least 30 days before they were imposed, and this measure comes after a year-long investigation into Chinese chip imports to the United States of America that was opened by the administration of former President Joe Biden.

US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said "China seeks to dominate the semiconductor industry, which imposes burdens on or restricts US trade, and therefore must impose tariff measures on it.".

Exporting critical minerals

This is the latest step in Trump’s efforts to calm tensions with Beijing, in the face of Chinese restrictions on the export of critical minerals that global technology companies rely on and are controlled by China.

As part of negotiations with Beijing to postpone those restrictions, President Trump backed away from a rule that limited US technology exports to units of Chinese companies already blacklisted.
