المملكة: With 1,450 employees and 479 slaughterhouses…an integrated system for meat safety in the Kingdom

The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture confirmed its continued efforts to ensure the quality and safety of meat provided to consumers by applying the highest health and preventive standards in slaughterhouses spread throughout the Kingdom.
She explained that these measures aim to preserve public health and enhance confidence in animal products.
The Ministry indicated that (1,450) employees work daily to directly supervise and follow up on inspection operations, ensuring that meat is safe from any diseases that may affect human health.
These operations are carried out accurately and include all stages of slaughter, from the initial inspection stages to the final inspection of the meat.

Global health standards

“Environment” revealed that the Ministry’s slaughterhouse network amounts to (479) slaughterhouses covering all regions of the Kingdom, making it one of the most important regionally organized slaughterhouse networks.
The Ministry is keen to ensure that all these facilities adhere to international health requirements and standards, to ensure the provision of safe, high-quality meat.

The Ministry stated that tens of thousands of carcasses are examined daily by specialized teams that include veterinarians and trained technicians, with a focus on discovering any signs that may indicate diseases or defects. Carcasses that do not comply with requirements are directed to destruction in accordance with sound environmental procedures.

Saudi Vision 2030

The Environment Agency noted that these efforts come within its ongoing plan to strengthen the infrastructure of the animal sector and raise the efficiency of operations in slaughterhouses in line with the goals of the National Ministry. This plan includes developing inspection mechanisms and increasing the awareness of workers and consumers about the importance of food safety.
It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture pays great attention to the animal sector, as it works to implement health and safety standards in all stages of production and distribution.
Through these efforts, the Ministry also seeks to enhance confidence in local products, reduce diseases common between humans and animals, and support the sustainable development of the agricultural and livestock sector in the Kingdom in line with Saudi Vision 2030.
