“Civil Defense” warns of the “silent killer” in the winter

In the framework of the “Safety Campaign in the Winter”, the Abu Dhabi Civil Defense Authority warned of the dangers of unsafe heating inside homes, especially using firewood or charcoal, noting that these means may lead to the gathering of carbon monoxide gas known as the “silent killer”, which is Color and odorless gas, cannot be felt, causes suffocation and leads to death when inhaled.
The authority emphasized that heating using firewood or coal in closed places is a great danger to the safety of individuals, especially during sleep, as the possibility of suffocation or fire eruption increases. It recommended that prevention and safety measures when using these means, such as operating them in open places or equipped with good ventilation, and extinguishing them completely after completing their use.
The authority called for the use of electrical heaters as a safe alternative inside the homes, while adhering to the preventive guidelines associated with them, such as placing them away from flammable materials such as furniture and curtains, and to ensure the safety of electrical wires and not pass under carpets, as well as prevent children from playing near them to avoid burns.
The authority warned of the non -navigated uses, such as heating foods, drying clothes, or igniting incense, because of the risk of fire. It recommended extinguishing heating devices when leaving the place or sleeping.
The commission stressed the importance of cooperating with civil defense teams by immediately reporting any emergency via the number (999), making the way for rescue, fire and ambulance vehicles, and avoiding gathering in accident sites to ensure the speed of response and maintain the safety of everyone.
