Trump orders the creation of a “American iron dome” for missile defense

US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he signed an executive order to start establishing a missile defense system for the United States similar to the “Iron Dome” system used by Israel to intercept thousands of missiles that targeted it during its war against Hamas in Gaza and the Lebanese Hezbollah.
“We need to start immediately creating an iron dome with the latest technology” for missile defense, stressing that this missile shield “will be manufactured here in the United States of America,” Trump told a conference of Republican legislators in Miami.
Later, on the presidential plane carrying Trump on the flight to Washington, a senior White House official confirmed that the president signed an executive order to “develop what we call the American Iron Dome, a comprehensive missile defense shield to protect American lands.”

During his election campaign in 2024, Trump repeated his pledge to create an American version of the Israeli “Iron Dome” system if he wins the presidency.
But he ignored the fact that this system is designed to counter the short -range missiles, which makes it inappropriate for the defense against the intercontinental ballistic missiles that pose the main danger to the United States.
Trump again praised the regime that Israel used against the missiles it was launched by Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon during the war that broke out after Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7.
“They drop almost every one of them,” Trump said, adding, “I think the United States deserves to have this.”
In his speech, which coincided with his defense minister, Beit Higseth took office, Trump added that the executive order for the missile shield is one of four other orders that he would sign, including an order that would “eradicate the doctrine of sexual transformation from our army.”
He considered that the transgression of the transgender from the army is “to ensure that we have the most deadly combat force in the world.”
The US military had lifted the ban on the service of sexually transformed soldiers in the armed forces in 2016, during the second term of the Democratic President Barack Obama.
