Sudan: The World Food Program warns against obstructing humanitarian efforts while trying to expand its operations

In a statement issued today, Thursday, the program said that it aims to double the number of people who support them in the country by 3 times to reach seven million people, adding that his maximum priority is to provide life -saving assistance to sites. “It faces starvation or swings to its lips.”

Since the launch of a large -scale wave of food aid in late 2024, the program has been able to reach the hard -to -reach areas, including Zamzam camp in North Darfur, South Khartoum and Jubish in West Kordofan.

The program also reached this month to a civilian friend in the state of Al -Jazeera after the city became safe enough to enter the trucks. More than 2.5 million people have received food and nutritional aid in the last quarter of 2024, including many of them for the first time since the conflict began.

In this context, Acting Director of the Sudan Office, Alex Marianlle, said: “We have achieved great breakthroughs in delivering aid to the difficult areas in the past three months, but these could not be one time. We urgently need to obtain a continuous flow of aid to families in the most affected areas, which were also the most difficult in Access to it.

The program pointed out that a convoy consisting of approximately 40 trucks heading to areas that are already suffering or at risk of starvation in Darfur took three times longer time to reach its destination due to the interventions of the Rapid Support Forces – which detained the convoy for weeks twice and put the requirements for obtaining new approvals and inspections and additional demands.

The liquidity crisis in Sudan affected the distributions of the cash and in -kind program for more than four million people, as it was delayed for more than a month due to the lack of sufficient banknotes to pay the wages of the porters to load trucks. The recent efforts made by the Sudanese Central Bank and the Ministry of Finance have led to alleviating the crisis and increasing the availability of criticism to gradually resuming the program operations.

The World Food Program called on all parties on the ground in Sudan to remove all unnecessary barriers and obstacles that prevent the full humanitarian response to the increasing hunger crisis in Sudan. He stressed the need to respect the neutrality and independence of workers in the field of relief and humanitarian work, and to ensure the safe traffic of humanitarian aid to the difficult areas that have been struck and struck by famine.

It is worth noting that Sudan is facing a catastrophic humanitarian situation, facing about 24.6 million people – nearly half of the country’s population – the lack of food security. There are 27 regions in various parts of Sudan suffering from famine or at risk of starvation, while more than a third of children in the areas most affected by acute malnutrition suffer, which far exceeds the threshold of the Declaration of Famine.
