The number of foreign skilled workers in Austria increased by 16%

Vienna on February 7 / WAM / The statements of the Austrian Ministry of Labor showed that the number of foreign skilled workers in 2024 increased by 16% to 30,340 people, in light of the increased demand for expertise in technology, engineering, health care and construction.
Austria faces a severe shortage of the skilled manpower, which is a major challenge to vital sectors such as information technology, construction, and health care.
For its part, a study conducted by the Austrian Institute for Economic Research revealed that 38% of companies face increasing difficulties in bridging job gaps, which affects the attracting foreign investments and economics growth.
Since 2011, the Austrian government is working to attract specialized workers from outside the European Union through a “red – white – red” card, which allows skilled professionals the opportunity to work in the country.
