Christre Victoron, Director General of the Federal Nuclear Control Authority, said that the professional day for workers in the nuclear and radiological sector represents an opportunity to honor the relevant efforts made by about 20 thousand workers in this sector in the UAE, for their dedication, experience and fixed commitment to ensure the safe and peaceful use of nuclear and radiological materials and technologies.

He added that the contribution of workers in this vital sector not only leads to innovation and progress, but also protects lives and environment, stressing the authority’s endeavor to continue protecting society, workers and the environment through its work closely with all partners to monitor the nuclear and radiological sector.

Aida Al -Shehhi, Director of Radiation Safety Department at the Federal Nuclear Control Authority, said in a statement to Emirates News Agency, “WAM”, that during the year 2024, the Committee of Radiation Control continued its efforts to enhance the radioactive security infrastructure in the country through several qualitative initiatives that reflect the UAE’s commitment to guarantee The highest safety standards in the nuclear and radiological sector.

She pointed to the most prominent achievements of the committee that resulted in the issuance of the internal radon survey plan, which aims to measure the levels of radon gas in homes and workplaces to protect society and workers from its risks, and she also issued a working paper on radioactive waste management in nuclear and radiological emergencies, to clarify the necessary arrangements to ensure safety The public, the environment and workers in this sector.

In the field of research and development, Al -Shehhi indicated that the committee has launched a guide on research and development in the field of radiological prevention, which defines challenges and opportunities to enhance state research in this field, and conducted an analytical study to assess laboratory capabilities to analyze radioactive materials, which contributed to providing recommendations to enhance their capabilities.

The contribution of the authority and the committee to providing support to workers in this field in the health sector, where last year the health monitoring guide was issued for workers in the nuclear and radiological sector, to set an integrated framework to protect individuals exposed to ionized radiation, and future needs of medical physicists were estimated during the next five years, To support the state’s position as a leading destination in medical tourism and enhance the role of qualified cadres in this field.
