The Belgian government reduces the ministries’ expenses by 30%

Brussels, February 16 / WAM / The Belgian federal government urged its ministers and institutions to impose strict restrictions on spending, by reducing 30% of ministries expenditures, and obliging administrative facilities often to obtain the approval of the Council of Ministers on their expenses.

The Belgian Budget Minister, Vincent van Betigham, said that his country faces a difficult but very necessary task and requires seriousness and focus, stressing the importance of making quick decisions and moving to a policy that allows the reversal of the path.

The current government in Brussels is working with a “twelve temporary” budget, allowing it to spend 1/12 of its total expenditures for 2024 in addition to linking the budget to record numbers every month.

Van Petigim called for strict discipline in public purchases, works contracts, supplies and services.

This caution is applied in the budget in the periods in which the outgoing government deals with ongoing affairs, and it usually stops when forming a new government.
