His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq, Minister of Economy, stressed that the UAE has paid great attention to the development of the intellectual property sector, as it is one of the main sectors to enhance the shift towards the new economic model based on knowledge and innovation, as the state has worked to develop a legislative and organizational environment for this vital sector, and to provide opportunities and potentials Which helps innovators and inventors to develop their entrepreneurial projects, which contributed to the establishment of the UAE’s position as a leading global destination For those with talent and creative works.
He said that the “Qutaf” exhibition represented a prominent platform to highlight the efforts and achievements witnessed by the intellectual property sector in the UAE during the last stage, the most prominent of which is the inauguration of a new system of intellectual property that includes 31 integrated initiatives that support innovation and creativity in the country, depending on the best global practices And the launch of the “Patent Incubator” project, which includes documenting the patent registration process in the seven Emirates, as well as The UAE launches a new path for “green intellectual property”, aimed at stimulating innovation in the fields of circular economy, environmental sustainability and the new economy.
His Excellency pointed out that these initiatives led to impressive results during 2024, where the number of registered brands increased by a remarkable rate of 89%, and intellectual works recorded a strong growth by 26.5%, and at the same time, the patents granted witnessed a noticeable increase of 17.5%, which indicates On continued technological progress and innovation.
The Ministry of Economy has strengthened its procedures and systems, which reduced the period of the preliminary examination of patents from 44 months at the beginning of 2023 to 20 months in 2024, which is nearly a reduction in the period in half. In addition, the number of national patent requests has doubled, which contributed to a total growth of 6%.
His Excellency added during his speech at the exhibition, that the Ministry of Economy will continue, in cooperation with its partners at the level of the government and private sectors, to launch more initiatives and projects that would enhance the competitiveness and leadership of the intellectual property environment and innovation, in line with the strategic goals of the Ministry, and in a way that supports the consolidation of a place The UAE as a global center for the new economy by the next decade in light of the targets of the vision “We are the Emirates 2031.
His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq visited during his tour of the exhibition, a number of innovative projects for Emirati entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs.
The exhibition witnessed the convening of two sessions, the first entitled the vital role played by technology and advanced techniques in protecting intellectual property, especially in light of the digital transformation witnessed by the world, as well as the role of digital innovation in promoting diversity and societal awareness of the culture of intellectual property rights protection, while the second session, which came under the title of the title, focused “Group Economies and Intellectual Property” on the importance of enhancing international cooperation in the intellectual property sector and activities, and better exchange Experiences and practices that enhance sustainable economic development.
