The Emirates Environment Working Group honors 64 entities at its annual concert

Dubai, February 25 / WAM / The Emirates Environment Group honored 64 entities at its twenty -eighth annual ceremony, in the presence of a number of dignitaries, ambassadors and consuls in appreciation of its prominent contributions to sustainability and community participation during the year 2024.
The ceremony was held under the patronage of Sheikh Eng. Salem bin Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi, head of the Civil Aviation Department in Ras Al Khaimah, and carried the slogan “Building unity, promoting sustainability”, stressing the importance of cooperation in advancing environmental efforts.
Mrs. Habiba Al -Marashi, the founding member and head of the Emirates Environment Group, confirmed that the group’s efforts during the past year contributed to achieving concrete results, the most prominent of which is the empowerment of 456,000 male and female students from becoming the environmental defenders through educational and educational programs, and the group also succeeded in converting 1,615,869 kg From the waste from the dumps, which contributed to reducing 6,527 metric tons of Carbon dioxide emissions, in addition to saving 11,939 cubic meters of waste dumps.
She pointed out that the “Emirates Clean” campaign, which was organized by the group under the auspices of the Ministry of Climate Change and the Environment, witnessed the participation of 83,123 volunteers from all over the country, and 15,881 local trees were instilled within the initiative “for our emirates we grow”, bringing the total trees planted by the group a year ago 2007 to 2,141,485 trees, as part of its efforts to enhance green spaces and support biological diversity.
She added that the group launched during 2024 new initiatives to enhance sustainability, namely “the removal of plastic waste”, which aims to reduce plastic pollution by enhancing the culture of responsible consumption and recycling, and “electronic waste day”, which aims to raise awareness of the importance of proper disposal of waste Electronic and ensuring sustainable recycling.
For its part, His Excellency Piranger Boyle, the United Nations coordinator in the UAE, stressed in its speech during the ceremony the importance of cooperative efforts in facing global environmental challenges, praising the role of the state in supporting sustainability through its national strategies, such as the strategic initiative to achieve climate neutrality 2050, and a plan Centenary Emirates 2071, and its commitment to developing the circular economy, and praised the group’s efforts to enhance the partnerships between the government and private sectors And civil society to advance the sustainability wheel.
