"Sharjah libraries" Organize a symposium "Literary roots" The first centenary activities

Sharjah, February 28/ WAM/ “Sharjah Public Libraries” yesterday launched the activities of its celebration of the hundred years since its establishment by organizing a symposium entitled “Literary Roots” during which Amira Bouchdra, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirati Publishers Association, hosted the founding partner in the library and publications of Dar Ghaf with the aim of highlighting the efforts of Sharjah to make literature and knowledge an original part of the fabric of society along with an interactive workshop on an interactive workshop on “Creative Writing Methods” presented by the writer Abdel -Hadi Taqi at the Student Forum at the University of Sharjah.

The symposium was attended by Khamis Salem Al -Suwaidi, advisor to the office of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Iman Bushleibi, Director of Sharjah Public Libraries, and Dr. Amina Al Marzouqi, Deputy Director of Sharjah University for Academic Affairs, as well as a number of government officials, academics and students.

Amira Bouchdra explained that His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, laid solid foundations for spreading knowledge and consolidating the culture of reading in Sharjah, noting the efforts of Sheikha Badour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sharjah Book Authority and the honorary chairman of the Emirati Publishers Association, which presented leading projects to support the Emirati publishers and promote the publishing industry locally and globally.

Boukdra praised the cultural environment that was established by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah through major events and initiatives such as the Sharjah International Book Fair and the Sharjah Reading Festival for Children and the Sharjah Festival of Literature, which made Sharjah an incubator for the writer, publisher, reader and family and contributed to exporting Emirati culture to the world, noting the “Library of Each Home” initiative that His Highness launched and described It is an unprecedented step in establishing a reader society.

She touched on the publishing industry in the UAE, stressing that it keeps pace with international standards in terms of quality, content and design, noting that initiatives such as the “Ashre” project for the sheikh in the role of Al Qasimi, which played a great role in supporting young publishers.

The “Creative Writing Workshop” witnessed the participation of a number of university students and highlighted the tools and professional means that enable the new writers to convert their ideas into influential creative texts.

The workshop included practical training during which the participants fought the experience of writing in topics inspired by the Emirate of Sharjah, then read their texts and exchanged ideas about them before commenting on a model in the form of a tree trunk, inspired by the concept of “literary roots” in a symbolic reference to the role of knowledge in establishing cultural and creative identity.
