“Dubai Electricity” invites the operators of freight points to adhere to the regulatory framework for charging electric vehicles

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has developed a comprehensive organizational framework and a system for granting licenses to develop and operate the infrastructure for charging electric vehicles throughout the Emirate of Dubai. This framework works to meet the current and future requirements, ensuring Dubai remains at the forefront of green movement innovations.
The framework includes two tracks: The first, according to which the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority and the companies affiliated with the authority are developing the infrastructure of the public weouns, while the second track includes providing an opportunity for operators of independent shipping points licensed by the authority to develop the infrastructure, based on its commitment to accelerate the acquisition of electric vehicles and encourage the participation of the private sector in promoting green transport.
According to the organizational framework for the infrastructure for charging electric vehicles, the independent freight points for electric vehicles must obtain a license from the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority to operate the general infrastructure for charging electric vehicles in the Emirate of Dubai. The authority provides two types of licenses: The first is issued to the operators of the general freight points for electric vehicles, which provides free vehicle charging services for free for users and the other for paid public freight points operators.
According to the infrastructure regulations for charging electric vehicles in the Emirate of Dubai Article 9 (transitional rulings), any person who operates public charging equipment on the date of the validity of the regulation of electric vehicles, must adhere to the provisions of the regulations no later than six (6) months from the date of the publication of the regulations in October 2024, i.e. a maximum date of March 31, 2025. Electricity for free. However, the process of collecting payments from customers in exchange for the use of the infrastructure of public chargers is definitely prohibited without obtaining a valid license issued by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority.
The Managing Director, CEO of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Saeed Mohammed Al -Tayer, said: “In line with the national policy of electric vehicles, the organizational framework for the infrastructure for charging electric vehicles supports enabling the growth of the general infrastructure in Dubai. The organizational framework reinforces our leadership as the one that launched the first public network of infrastructure for charging electric vehicles in the region, which currently includes more than 740 charging points. This step enhances our continuous efforts to encourage sustainable movement, achieve the strategic goals of the emirate in terms of sustainability, air quality, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and the goals of the carbon neutrality strategy 2050 for the Emirate of Dubai and Dubai Green Mobility Strategy 2030 ».
