Noura Al -Suwaidi: The UAE is a world leader in empowering women

During the participation of the General Women’s Union in the session “Achieving the Begin Promise to enhance the role of women in leadership”

New York, March 16 / WAM / His Excellency Noura Al -Suwaidi, General Secretary of the General Women’s Union, affirmed the UAE’s keenness since the adoption of a work curriculum in Jin in 1995, to translate recommendations into realistic policies, which enables women and enhances their role in leadership and decision -making sites, which made it a leading model at the regional and global level in supporting women.

This came during the participation of the General Women’s Union in the session “Achieving the Begin Promise to enhance the role of women in leadership”, which was held within the agenda of the 69th session of the Women’s Placement Committee in New York – the United States of America, which started on March 10 and will continue until 21 of the month.

The session organized the Arab Republic of Egypt, with the participation of the UAE, the United Nations Women, the National Council for Women in the Arab Republic of Egypt, Iceland, the State of New Zealand, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom of Spain, and South Africa.

His Excellency Noura Al -Suwaidi explained that Emirati women have become an essential element in the decision -making process, whether in the government, the private sector or diplomatic work, thanks to an ambitious vision that relies on equal and providing opportunities, supported by modern legislation and qualitative initiatives that enhance women’s participation in all fields.

During the session, the most prominent achievements in this regard were reviewed, including: In the government field: Today, women occupy 50% of the seats of the Federal National Council, which makes the UAE at the forefront of countries that provide a balanced representation between the sexes in Parliament. Also, 26% of the cabinet of the women’s component leads vital files such as international cooperation, advanced science, education, and culture. In the diplomatic sector: Emirati women constitute 49.5% of diplomatic cadres, and in the economy and entrepreneurship, women constitute more than 12% of the boards of directors of listed companies, and in technology and innovation not only empowering women in the Emirates to traditional positions, but also extended to digital economy and modern technology, as the state encourages women to engage in the areas of artificial intelligence, space, and renewable energy.

His Excellency Noura Al -Suwaidi indicated that it is a belief in the role of women in the renaissance of societies, the efforts of the UAE in empowering them extend to the whole world, as it launched many programs that support women, including: the initiative of Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak to empower women in peace and security, which aims to enhance women’s contributions to spreading a culture of dialogue and peace and achieving security, stability and development, and more than 500 women and the project of the Arab Observatory for the Development of Women have been trained in economically. Its approval at the Leadership Summit 2023 to establish a platform that brings Arab countries to support the leadership of women and contributes to the expansion of partnerships between the pioneers of work in the Arab world and the enhancement of the economy and the initiative of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak to empower rural women in Africa in the agricultural field and other exceptional initiatives.

While the UAE has adopted a comprehensive national policy to empower women for the coming years, which aims to empower citizenship and resident women alike, and this policy affirms the UAE’s commitment to the participation of just and comprehensive women to influence in all fields and enhance the quality of life for society, as the state seeks to be a role model in achieving the gender balance to build a more sustainable and innovative future.

Her Excellency stressed that the UAE is continuing to consolidate this model, and is ready to share its expertise with the international community to support regional and international efforts to enhance the presence of women in all fields, saying, “Together, we can make a promise of Jin a more powerful and influential reality, and we build a world in which women are a leader, decision maker, and influencing all development paths.”
